The [Department of Psychology ](https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=2468614&targetURL=https://psychology.georgetown.edu/)at Georgetown University invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin in August 2022. For the first year of this position, the successful candidate will hold the title of Provost's Distinguished Fellow, and will have no teaching and service responsibilities to allow a focus on research while receiving mentorship and support from two senior faculty members. We are seeking an outstanding scholar conducting quantitative or qualitative research on the causes, experiences, or consequences of racial injustice and disparities in education, health, and/or mental health. Areas of focus could include but are not limited to (1) psychological and contextual factors underlying the effects of racial inequity on human development (e.g., behavioral, physiological) across the lifespan, (2) factors that predict resilience in the context of racial injustice, and (3) impacts of policy, program, and community responses to racial inequity.

Candidates will be expected to develop an innovative research program, as demonstrated by a record of high-quality publications and external research support, combined with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate level education and mentorship. The Psychology Department offers an undergraduate major in psychology, an honors program, and a doctoral degree with concentrations in Lifespan Cognitive Neuroscience and in Human Development and Public Policy. After the first year of this appointment, successful candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate courses. Successful candidates are also expected to contribute to graduate training and mentorship in our graduate program.

Georgetown's multiple schools, departments, and programs address racial injustice and inequity through innovative scholarship, teaching, and outreach. Faculty across three campuses - the Medical Center, Main Campus, and Law Center - explore education and health issues in their scientific, legal, policy, and ethical dimensions. The University's interdisciplinary Racial Justice Institute brings together faculty across the campuses to push the frontiers of knowledge about race, equity, and action. Georgetown University has a state-of-the-art medical center (including Georgetown Hospital, Medical School, and Lombardi Cancer Center) located within walking distance of the Psychology department where there are a large number of faculty working on health disparities, interventions to reduce health risks, and strategies for health promotion and disease prevention. Georgetown is also home to the McCourt School of Public Policy and the Walsh School of Foreign Service, with communities of scholars focusing on health, education and public policy.

*Qualifications*

A Ph.D. in psychology is required prior to appointment start date. The demonstration of a commitment to academic excellence and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This commitment to DEI can be demonstrated in a number of ways, including through teaching and research on matters related to DEI or through service that has fostered DEI in a university community.

*Position Details:*
The Provost's Distinguished Faculty Fellowship program is in its inaugural year at Georgetown University. This program is designed to bring in a cohort of new faculty from a wide range of backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Provost's Distinguished Fellows are on the tenure track and will be exempt from teaching and service duties in the first year of their appointments, and will devote their full-time effort to building their research program. Fellows will be assigned senior faculty mentors by their home departments.
