About the Job

Required qualifications
BA/BS (in Plant Science, Horticulture or related field) with at least 1 year of experience or a combination of related educational experience and work experience to equal five years. Demonstrated experience working with horticultural crops; field, laboratory, and/or greenhouse research.

Preferred qualifications
Practical experience or coursework in entomology and/or hydroponic production. Experience supervising and mentoring. Experience contributing to written manuscripts for publication in refereed journals. Experience in data analysis using statistical software and creation of data figures and tables.

Position Summary
The research involves working on two projects: 1) investigating field research investigating different film-based mulches on strawberry production and surveying insect pests; and 2) hydroponic production of organic vegetables and integrated pest management in controlled environments.

Responsibilities
This position is for a temporary researcher for the organic fruit & vegetable program (Rogers lab). Work will primarily take place at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Research management (60%)
Acquire supplies & materials for research projects
Setup and maintain research experiments
Establish and manage controlled environment experiments
Maintain and troubleshoot microclimate data sensors
Coordinate research trials, including managing communication with project partners
Assist with arrangement and facilitation of research meetings and conference calls
Develop and adhere to research protocols
Data collection, analysis, and scientific communication (30%)
Collect and manage field and greenhouse data, with emphasis on organization, curation, and accessibility
Contribute to writing for research reports and academic publications
Contribute to poster and research presentations for dissemination
Supervise undergraduate technicians (10%)
Help train and mentor undergraduate technicians
Schedule and coordinate research activities for undergraduate technicians
