Position Description

The Technical Business Research Content Developer will be responsible for producing a wide variety of written translational research content that feature the scholarly works of Kenan-Flagler Business School faculty members, particularly in the subject matter of the Institute's affiliated centers and initiatives including economic development, private capital, entrepreneurship, health, emerging technology, and others.

This position will cultivate relationships with Institute staff, its affiliated centers, and Kenan-Flagler faculty to identify and translate academic business research to make it useful and actionable for the Kenan Institute audience at large, including industry leaders and policymakers. In addition, the Technical Business Research Content Developer will be responsible for developing content pieces in various styles including the Institute's Kenan Insights series, white papers, policy briefs, data commentaries, slide decks, among others. This position will also review and edit content written by faculty and research staff for publication. In order to accomplish these goals, the selected candidate will be required to stay up-to-date on the latest business and economic news in order to assist the Institute with producing timely and solutions-based content.

This position will work on a wide variety of translational research efforts at the Institute and will be expected to assist from beginning to end of a project including identifying source material through literature reviews; interviewing experts; writing and editing the final product. This position will report to the Director of Research Services. However, this position will work closely in partnership with both the research services and external affairs teams in order to drive the Institute's vision around developing solutions-oriented content that focuses on how the private sector can be leveraged for the public good. Specifically, this position will work closely with a cross-functional team from both External Affairs and Research Services to understand what content is resonating with the institute's audience, and pitch content that aligns with the outreach goals of the Kenan Institute.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the familiarity of writing in AP style. Must be comfortable reading, understanding, and translating academic business research. Should be familiar with citation styles including APA 7th edition. Must have strong data literacy skills, with the ability to interpret basic statistical models used in economic and business research. Proficiency in Excel is required, with experience using statistical software a plus. This position requires strong project management skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines. Must be team-oriented, with the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism, business, economics, public policy, or other relevant field is with at least three years of related experience is strongly preferred.

Familiarity or experience with the following areas is preferred:

academic literature databases

conducting literature reviews

data visualizations and infographics, particularly with business and economic data.
