We are seeking an experienced Associate Director to help build the research team and create a pipeline of innovative therapies spanning multiple therapeutic areas.The Associate Director will be a key contributor to setting the strategic direction for drug discovery and development at the company. The candidate will report to the Vice President of Drug Discovery and work closely with all of the members of the R&D team. The candidate must have leadership experience in discovery, development, and translational research in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of human biology required to advance internal programs while engaging with external partners in parallel. A demonstrated track record of leading research groups that have moved molecules from inception to the clinic is required.

Responsibilities

* Contribute to the strategic focus of the Research team
* Advance programs forward from inception into IND-enabling studies
* Demonstrate leadership in your research program, as well as across other R&D programs at the company
* Responsible for monitoring and critically evaluating relevant scientific literature to advance novel pipeline
* Think strategically and creatively about the science
* Manage a team of scientists and research associates
* Ensure performance standards are maintained and that experiments are performed to a consistently high standard
* Responsible for data review, analysis, and interpretation from a variety of sources to enable program go/no-go decisions
* Demonstrate strong people skills, leading by example and working with research teams to manage multiple projects

Requirements

* At least 6 years of relevant experience at biotechnology/pharmaceutical company, in a biology or drug discovery group
* Prior experience working at one or more smaller, fast-paced biotech companies
* Prior industry experience in the field of neuroscience and/or neuroinflammation
* PhD in neuroscience, inflammation or related discipline
* Technical proficiency in cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, and/or protein biochemistry and purification
* Demonstrable track record of experimental approach, design, and execution to address a question
* Deep scientific knowledge and technical skills
* Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a fast-paced work environment
* Experience working with external vendors and collaborators, with strong interpersonal capabilities
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and lead cross-functional teams
* Excellent verbal and written communication (technical writing, PowerPoint)
* Experience in project leadership and laboratory management
