Department/Unit/Area: Perianesthesia: Pre-Admission Screening
Lines of Responsibility: Manager, Executive Director, Medical Director
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience, included with primary job responsibilities.
Classification: Non-exempt
Job Summary: Responsible for ensuring patients at the Iowa City Ambulatory Surgical Center meet specified patient selection criteria, as designated by the Director of Anesthesia. Daily review of patient/medical record to ensure patient safety for surgery. Excellent communication skills a must. Moderate computer skills mandatory. Ability to prioritize, problem-solve and work independently.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
* Ensure all necessary information for each patient is present prior to the patient's scheduled procedure, including physician orders, any required lab tests, surgeon notes, and history and physical exam.
* Complete pre-op telephone call with patient to review health history and communicate all pertinent instructions for procedure
* Review patient's health history:
* Enter patient's medical and surgical history into the medical record
* Pre-screen to ensure patient is an appropriate candidate for facility
* For those patients who have multiple co-morbidities or are questionable ASC candidates, chart is given to designated anesthesia provider for review and approval
* Work closely with the surgeon's office staff, facility business office/clinical staff, and anesthesia providers, alerting them to any identified special needs or important information regarding a patient's care
* Promote a positive first impression of the facility to our patients and/or caregiver
* Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
Qualifications:
Required:
* Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
* Current registered nurse licensure in state of employment, free of restrictions or disciplinary actions
* Experience: Current 3-5 years of Medical- Surgical or other nursing experience
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
* Moderate computer skills (eg, Microsoft® Word)
