ROLE SUMMARY

This position is accountable for developing and driving the early development strategy of assets in ORD (Oncology Research & Development), a division of WRDM, in alignment with the overall ORD and Pfizer portfolio strategy. The early development asset team leader (ATL) leads the asset team (AT) and is accountable for the seamless execution of all project deliverables from candidate selection and IND enabling deliverables leading to First in Patient and up to the time an asset may transition to the appropriate late phase development organization. The ATL will be responsible for approval of program and/or project plans, and endorsement and integration of strategies. The early development ATL applies scientific knowledge and clinical and drug development experience to ensure the research and development strategy of the AT can address unmet medical needs and commercial strategies.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees clinical portfolio development from pre-FIH through transition to late development.
  • Leads cross-functional Asset Team(s) composed of the following standing member line functions: Clinical lead, Clinical Operations program lead, Nonclinical project lead, Development director, Translational lead, Commercial lead, Pharmaceutical Sciences team lead, and Project Management.
  • Will also include other functional line leads (Regulatory, Clinical Pharmacology, DMPK, PK/PD Modeling, Biostatistics, Legal, etc.) in asset development planning and execution, as needed
  • Endorses and integrates line function strategies.
  • Accountable for developing projects that are cost-effective and looks to de-risk the candidate and investments as early as practical (clinical portfolio level).
  • Accountable for ensuring that the projects are managed appropriately per budget.
  • Accountable for ensuring that the necessary resources are available to the projects to support their success.
  • Accountable for communicating across lines and functions to facilitate timely and effective decision-making. Prepares teams for project reviews and governance milestone decisions, ensuring high quality and delivering objective and comprehensive assessments of team strategy and project status.
  • Accountable for the quality of asset deliverables to external authorities.
  • Promotes a culture of innovation and inclusivity within Asset Teams in order to bring forward creative development plans that maximize the potential of the asset.

ATLs may be selected from diverse scientific backgrounds, but they must exhibit significant learning agility, build deep knowledge of disease biology, and are responsible for championing innovative scientific strategies to deliver differentiated medicines that treat cancer indications.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD, PharmD or advanced scientific degreewith post-graduate clinical training/development and experience in clinical medicine or drug development
  • Minimum of 10 years (15 years preferred) of relevant post graduate experience in the pharmaceutical, academic and/or medical research environments having successfully executed a major component of a development program(s), with a substantial portion of that experience in Oncology / Immuno-oncology
  • Strong understanding of the elements of drug development programs and experience in their design and execution.
  • Filing and defense of INDs, CTAs and full dossiers.
  • Successful demonstration of experience leading matrix drug discovery teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal communications and negotiation skills are essential dimension of this role
