The role

We are recruiting an enthusiastic Research Associate to join a 15-month research project to investigate the effects of ozone water sterilisation in calf rearing systems, on growth and gastrointestinal (GI) disease incidence. Calf scour has a significant negative impact on calf health, welfare and productivity in the UK. This project will evaluate the benefits of ozone water sterilisation in drinkers to prevent transmission of GI pathogens, such as Cryptosporidium, in calf rearing systems. You will join a growing team of researchers working on the relationship between GI health and productivity and the gut microbiome in livestock.

What will you be doing?

The role involves setting up and carrying out ozone trials on farms in the South-West UK, including a detailed study at the University of Bristol Dairy Research Farm. You will be expected to carry out sample/data collection, processing and analysis and produce high quality reports to deadlines, based on these data.

You should apply if

You are independent and self-directed, have excellent communication skills, have experience in conducting field studies in farm animals, have an interest in cattle production and gastrointestinal disease, have knowledge of biological sample and data collection and have some experience in laboratory and statistical analysis.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
