*Senior Associate Dean of Students*
The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of senior associate dean of students. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

Creating inclusive experiences where students "learn, lead, and serve," staff are actively engaged in the lives of our students in our classrooms, residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. The Division seeks candidates willing to engage, challenge, and support our students through intentional programs and services. In addition, we seek colleagues that are committed to teamwork and have a palpable passion for working with and serving all students. *The Department:* The Office of the Dean of Students centers the student experience using three tenets: compassionate care, leadership and service and mattering and belonging. Committed to caring for the whole student, the office collaborates across campus to cultivate an environment where students can thrive. Functions within the office include the Big Orange Pantry, Family Engagement, the distressed student referral line, 974HELP, and engagement initiatives. The Office of the Dean of Students also includes the Jones Center for Leadership and Service, Center for Student Engagement, Multicultural Student Life, the Pride Center, Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, the Student Government Association, and Student Media.*The Position: *Reporting to the associate vice chancellor for Student Life and dean of students, the senior associate dean is responsible for leading student leadership and engagement initiatives and departments. The role includes fostering a community that leads to student success through four departments: the Center for Student Engagement, the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, Jones Center for Leadership and Service, and Student Media. As a member of the Dean of Students and Student Life leadership teams, this position represents the office in the absence of the dean of students, supports departmental professional development efforts and budget functions, and serves as an advisor for the Student Government Association.
The senior associate dean works with the Dean of Students Leadership Team to define the strategic direction of the office, assesses and evaluates departmental initiatives, advocates for students and staff, and plays a significant role in increasing leadership, learning and engagement across all departments reporting to the Office of the Dean of Students. This position serves on various university committees and participates in the on-call rotation with the Dean of Students senior leadership team.

Qualifications
*Required Qualifications:**Education*: This position requires a master's degree in higher education, college student personnel or related field. *Experience*:
* Substantial experience in student affairs administration
* Demonstrated leadership ability and administrative accomplishments in positions of increasing responsibility
* Demonstrated commitment to the intellectual, professional, and personal development of a diverse student body
A history of working collaboratively with diverse constituencies. This position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a college environment. *Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:*
* Ability to demonstrate cultural humility and commitment to building inclusive and respectful communities
* Ability to demonstrate innovation and creativity
* Ability to lead a team of seasoned staff in the provision of programs and services
* Knowledge and experience with student engagement, assessment, and evaluation
* Strong helping skills to assist students and families in distress
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
* Proven ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve stakeholders in the decision-making process
* Demonstrated ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with students, faculty, staff and external constituencies
* Significant knowledge of developmental issues of college students and demonstrated knowledge of and consciousness related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Effective communication skills to allow incumbent to serve as a representative for the associate vice chancellor for Student Life/dean of students within the University and in the community at-large.*Preferred Qualifications:**Education:* A doctoral degree in a related field is preferred.*Experience:*
* Administrative experience supervising team members at the director level within a university environment
* Superior leadership and management skills, including interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
* Excellent presentation and training skills
* An understanding of organizational dynamics; budgeting and financial management, staff supervision
* An understanding of student development as it relates to student learning
Demonstrated experience with crisis management and working with students in distress*Salary:* The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package. *Application Process:* A review of all applications will begin immediately with a priority deadline of *Thursday, October 7th*.
