Applies knowledge of technical principles and new product development systems/procedures to optimize product development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and perform experiments and tests to evaluate biomaterial performance based on scientific/engineering principles; analyze results, make recommendations.
  • Develop and lead in vivo animal studies to assess biomaterial performance at both material and valve levels, analyze results, make recommendations.
  • Participate in biomaterial development and characterization.
  • Author technical documents including protocols, reports, and technical summaries.
  • Coordinate and engage testing activities which may involve engineers/scientists and technicians from different business units as well as external service providers.
  • Generate work instructions, test methods, engineering drawings/prototypes, etc., to establish process specifications.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Scientific field , 2 years years experience Required or

Master's Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Scientific field with internship, senior projects, or thesis in Engineering or Scientific field including either industry or industry/education Required

Additional Skills:
  • Prior experience with method validation and in vivo study is preferred.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with biomaterials characterization such as mechanical testing, microscopy, cell-based assays, ELISA, immunohistochemistry is desirable.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and proactivity in solving problems and achieving results.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team is essential.
  • Good documentation, communication (e.g., written and verbal) and interpersonal relationship skills including consultative and relationship management skills
  • Understanding of statistical techniques
  • Previous experience working with lab/industrial equipment required
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to Engineering
  • Solid problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Solid understanding of processes and equipment used in assigned work
  • Adherence to relevant Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, including the ability to manage vendors and project stakeholders
  • Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships
