The Institute for the Study of Decision Making is accepting resumes and cover letters on a rolling submission basis. When positions open up in a lab within the Institute, your resume may be pulled for consideration.
The responsibilities associated with Junior Research Scientists at ISDM will vary depending on the needs of the specific lab that is hiring and the nature of the applicant's long-term career goals. However, such positions generally entail starting at an entry-level position in a laboratory with a mixture of research and lab-related support duties. Working in a research laboratory is often a critical first step for individuals to become acquainted with how research is conducted in a lab setting. Lab responsibilities might include maintaining lab facilities; installing or troubleshooting software or computers systems; organizing and maintaining centralized laboratory lab websites, grant applications/renewals and data storage; providing technical assistance to researchers; and for human research, recruiting, screening and running subjects for ongoing studies, among others. Since graduate programs often require or strongly prefer applicants that have research experience, ISDM has created this avenue for individuals to apply for potential opportunities on a rolling basis.
Minimum qualifications/requirements may vary
The Institute is involved with labs that vary widely on the nature of the research they conduct. Research programs range from animal or human research, to computational or theoretical work, as well as neuroimaging opportunities, among others. Please supply your list of qualifications and outline your strengths in your cover letter. Also include your desired research interests, career goals and preferred lab/s. Ideal applicants for any position will be highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, with good problem-solving abilities and a willingness to take on new challenges.
Responsibilities/Duties
While a Junior Research Scientist is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, typical responsibilities include the following:
+ Assist graduate students, postdocs, and sometimes the PI in ongoing lab experiments.
+ Conduct literature reviews
+ Collect and analyze data
+ Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
+ Recruit and/or interview human subjects
+ Provide ready access to all experimental data for the researcher and/or supervisor
+ Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project
+ Manage and respond to project related email
+ Attend project and general lab meetings
+ Attend area seminars and other meetings if necessary
+ Prepare progress reports for the PI and funding agency
+ Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations
+ Monitor the project budget
