What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be a member of our Clinical & Diagnostic Assay Development department in Pfizer's Vaccine Research and Development. You will contribute to the biofunctional assay development and clinical testing to support our vaccine candidates.

You will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of biology, you will be an active team member whose decisions impact the project. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. You will be forecasting and planning resource requirements for your team. Your creativity in developing novel assays and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Effectively collaborate with other members of Vaccine Research and Development and supporting partner lines to develop, optimize, qualify, validate, and perform assays quantifying functional immune responses elicited by the vaccine candidate.
  • Participate in collaborations with internal and external collaborators to identify, trouble-shoot, and optimize novel biofunctional assay technologies.
  • Manage the laboratory in accordance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) requirements to lead team in conducting assay development and early clinical testing in a regulated environment.
  • Supervise colleagues in the design and execution of experiments, provide scientific leadership, and foster teamwork, trust, and coaching among team members.
  • Author protocols and scientific reports to document research in accordance with Pfizer and regulatory policies.


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • PhD in immunology, microbiology, or a related field with 0-2 years of post-graduate experience
  • Expertise and hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, biofunctional assays and/or immunoassays, and biosafety level 2 (or above) organisms
  • Technical knowledge of antibody-mediated functions
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work efficiently and productively in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with personal computers including Microsoft Office and relevant scientific software to analyze data


Nice-to-Have
  • Technical experience in vaccine research, assays quantifying antibody functions mediated through Fc receptors, and a desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role
  • Experience mentoring, training and/or managing scientists and a laboratory


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The position has physical requirements of basic office and laboratory work (sitting, standing, and walking).
  • The mental requirements include the ability to analyze data, design experiments and present complex concepts to colleagues .
