The Health Sciences editorial group of Wiley is offering a Managing Editor position for Wiley's open access journal Cancer Medicine.

Applicants for the position should have a broad interest in the oncological sciences and should possess a PhD in cancer biology, oncology or related fields. They should be self-motivated, have excellent organizational and communication skills (English, written and verbal), and be diplomatic, and flexible. Previous publishing experience would be advantageous.

How you will make an impact:
  • Be part of a global editorial team responsible for steering the scientific, operational and strategic delivery of the journal. You will collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and editorial office staff to ensure an exceptional publishing service for authors.
  • Assess submitted research papers Cancer Medicine on scientific and technical merit and manage the peer-review procedures for these manuscripts as handling editor or along with other associate editors.
  • Be responsible for development of journal content and contact with authors and referees from all over the world through commissioning and customer-facing activities.
  • As part of a cancer-focused subject team, be dedicated to improving the competitive position of Wiley's oncology program more broadly and contributing to increased recognition and value of Wiley's product and service offerings in the community.
  • In collaboration with Wiley staff and the external Editors, you will ensure the smooth functioning of cascading and publication process.
  • We are looking for people who have:
  • Ph.D. in cancer biology, oncology or related field
  • Experience in handling peer-review processes/independent decision making/conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of the ethical issues important in peer-review and of the financial drivers in journal publishing
  • Proficiency in content acquisition techniques
  • Familiarity and networked with the relevant author and referee communities
  • Strong negotiation/interpersonal skills to interact effectively with editors, authors, and noted scientific authorities
  • Excellent planning and negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Good networking skills and presentation skills
  • Highly motivated and achievement oriented
  • Excellent command of the English language and familiarity with social media tools
