Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer

  • Management within an academic department, in conjunction with the Head of the Department;
  • Participating in Faculty management activities;
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in compliance with the general teaching focus of the Department;
  • Developing and evaluating course material;
  • Sourcing and managing external research funds;
  • Supervising postgraduate students;
  • Conducting an active and productive research programme within the general focus of the Department and publishing such research in relevant peer-reviewed journals;
  • Developing national and international research and industry partnerships and networks;
  • Involvement with community engagement projects;
  • Involvement with administrative service delivery at departmental, Faculty and University levels.


  • PhD in Agricultural Economics;
  • Experience in a variety of resource and environmental economics studies, including:
    • sustainable water resource management and utilisation in agriculture;
    • climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies for agriculture.
  • Experience in Life Cycle Analysis and Multi-criteria Decision-analysis;
  • Experience in transdisciplinary research and interdisciplinary collaboration;
  • Proven ability or participation in undergraduate teaching in a university context;
  • Proven ability of postgraduate student supervision;
  • Proven ability to obtain external research funding;
  • Peer-reviewed scientific publications commensurate with the level of appointment;
  • Proven project management and leadership experience within a mid-sized organisation.

  • An NRF rating or equivalent;
  • Recognition within the field or discipline on a national and/or international level;
  • Sound interpersonal skills;
  • Relevant experience in industry-related applied research;
  • Relevant computer proficiency;
  • Language proficiency for a multilingual university.
