SON faculty members who have advanced practice specialization (nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, clinical nurse specialist or nurse anesthetist) may function in all of the missions of the School. Clinical teaching of nurse-midwifery students is an expectation. Clinical teaching of other OHSU advanced practice students may be required. The faculty member must be nationally certified by the AMCB and state licensed. The faculty member must be credentialed and privileged as a member of Hillsboro Medical Center and the OHSU Professional Staff, in accordance with the specialty bylaws. The faculty member will provide clinical services at Hillsboro Medical Center, an OHSU Partner community hospital as determined by the Director of Nurse-Midwifery in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Faculty members whose primary focus is in clinical care are also expected to participate in service appropriate to rank and track. The advanced practice faculty member is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU and SON policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.

1.Clinical Activities: Practice that emanates from the School of Nursing is expected to support the teaching, practice and research missions of the School. In the practice environment, teaching occurs concurrently with clinical activities.
Specific duties include: The primary expectation is the provision of clinical midwifery services to patients in an OHSU Partner community hospital. Clinical faculty practice is a collaborative model of nurse-midwives and obstetrician/gynecologists in both the clinic and the inpatient setting (L&D, MBU) and during both day and night shifts.
2.Scholarly Activities: Participation in scholarly activities is based on faculty rank
3.Education Activities Education of clinical students is expected.
4.Service Activities: These activities could include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities and other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Midwifery. Participates in faculty governance; additional engagement based on rank.
5.Administrative Activities: As negotiated.
6.Other Activities: The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the mission of the School.

  • Masters degree in nursing required.
  • AMCB or ACC certification as a nurse-midwife required.
  • Three years of clinical practice experience required.

  • Doctorate preferred.
  • Nurse-midwifery license and current CPR and NRP card required.
  • Teaching or precepting experience at the baccalaureate level or higher preferred.
