Fixed term, full-time position available for three years.

Working under limited direction with a degree of autonomy, the Ruby on Rails Developer is responsible for providing high quality services to key stakeholders across the university.

The University of Adelaide is recognised globally as a leading research university and consistently ranked in the top 1% of the world's universities. Ruby on Rails Developer is a part of the Research Applications DevOps squad (within our central IT Branch). The Research Applications DevOps squad supports 40+ research applications and contributes to both operational support activities (BAU) and project initiatives.

Our tech stack includes Ruby on Rails, Vue.JS Javascript, RESTful APIs, AWS, with a CI/CD pipeline including Capistrano. Our ways of working include flexible working hours and a healthy balance between working from the office and working from home.

Driving good technology practices in software development, this opportunity applies extensive general experience in software development practice to the platforms of supported products in the team, with a focus on continuous improvement in development practice for themselves and quality assurance of junior members of the team.

To be successful you will need:
  • Demonstrated experience with web development using Ruby on Rails and JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated experience using Object Oriented design, Service Oriented Architecture and API design.
  • Demonstrated experience with relational data modelling and SQL.
  • Experience in Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
  • Experience working with an Agile (e.g. Scrum) mindset and technologies.
