Learning is for everyone, and so is our workplace. Bring your experiences, your perspectives, and your passion. It's in our differences that we empower the way the world learns.

You will be responsible for the strategic day to day management of a portfolio of predominantly neuroscience journals. You will manage and develop relationships with external journal editors, and some society officers, while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders, networking in the community to identify opportunities for growth. Additionally, you will formulate success plans for the publishing portfolio and participate in global strategic development of publishing activities and select projects. You are a self-starter with sufficient experience to hit the ground running.

How you will make an impact:
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with societies, external editors and editorial boards with the aim of building and maintaining the journals' reputation and quality
  • Ensure the efficient day to day running of existing journals and optimized operations, in close cooperation with relevant internal staff e.g. content management staff and marketing
  • Independently manage the cost base and operational effectiveness of the journals, proactively looking for improvements
  • Meet portfolio-related objectives with regard to market share, editorial succession, cost per article, operations, growth, etc.
  • Develop and implement editorial development plans
  • Organize and host editorial board meetings, driving content development discussions which are based on analytics and evidence
  • Attend academic conferences when required, running workshops and presenting
  • Implement new author/publishing services on own portfolio as required
  • Support commissioning activity, bid presentations and contract renewals

We are looking for people who:
  • Have 3 or more years publishing experience, undergraduate degree or above in a scientific field or in publishing
  • Has a demonstrated understanding of journals publishing, current industry practices, trends, business drivers and opportunities
  • Has strong networking skills and the ability to manage conflicts constructively
  • Has a solutions-oriented approach and highly organized working style
  • Has a willingness to initiate and support innovative activities and projects within the company to drive growth and strategic development
  • Possesses experience with key tools and systems, including ScholarOne, Web of Science, and JCR
  • Commercial acumen and financial awareness
