The role

Would you like a role where you can get things done, improve how operations work, and support people across a range of roles? Do you have the skills, enthusiasm and experience to effectively manage people, to act as a deputy to the School Manager in liaising with others and making decisions, and to lead on your own portfolio of projects and processes? If so, apply to this fixed-term post with the School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Maths (SCEEM) at the University of Bristol.

What will I be doing?

In this role, you will work with (and frequently deputise for) the School Manager to work with colleagues across the faculty and university on delivering and constantly improving a wide range of projects and processes - from planning how to accommodate growth in student numbers, to implementing changes to improve EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), to managing our school finances. You will effectively line manage and support five staff, all of whom run Postgraduate Research student services, including Centres for Doctoral Training. You will lead on a number of projects and processes, such as the allocation of over 350 Teaching Support Role opportunities; the academic staff Workload Allocation model, or specific space remodelling projects. You'll be an integral part of the Senior Management Team and School Board, and will not only be a part of these groups that aim to make appropriate and timely decisions, but also provide them with the evidence base with which to do this.

You should apply if

You should apply if you have strong interpersonal skills; excellent analytical skills with a keen understanding of how to improve processes, and the ability to manage people effectively. There will often be a number of time-sensitive challenges to which you will need to rise, and you'll need to be highly flexible and adaptable, and comfortable when you are required to work in areas outside of your own expertise. You should have the ability to communicate easily and professionally with others and be excited about your role in making our service as inclusive of as diverse a range of people as possible. You should be proactive and able to implement your own workload, motivated to provide an excellent environment within which to work and study. You should be comfortable multi-tasking, prioritising and working in a busy office environment with a range of people and stakeholders.

SCEEM Professional Services team is currently part of the University of Bristol Blended Working pilot, and so the successful candidate will be required to be physically on campus for a minimum of two days per week, with the flexibility to arrange to come in on non-scheduled days with sufficient notice.

The selection process is likely be held in the week commencing October 11th 2021.

This post is being offered as a 1.0 FTE fixed term contract until January 2023, or until the substantive post-holder returns from maternity leave. Flexible working options will be considered.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
