SCCD's strategic south San Diego County locations position the College to provide exceptional service to a binational community on the U.S.-Mexico International Border. Southwestern Community College District seeks faculty who value mentorship and working in a collegial, collaborative environment, guided by a commitment to helping all students achieve their educational goals. *RESPONSIBILITIES: *The School of Arts, Communication and Social Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Recording Arts and Technology, who will work under the direction of the Dean. The Assistant Professor will be teaching all levels of recording techniques, audio technology, and/or music business courses. Primary responsibilities include instructing, managing the studio, advising students, engaging in scholarly activity, participating in career-education annual reviews and funding requests, and serving on department and college committees.

*Knowledge and Abilities:*

* *Subject matter preparation:*

a. Experience in teaching general and specialized Recording Arts and Technology courses.b. Work experience in the area of Recording Arts and Technology.c. Teaching experience to include at least two years of community college or above; either part-time or fulltime.d. Assume a lead role in curriculum development and implementation of courses in Recording Arts and Technology program.e. Participate in the development of workforce industry relationships, work-based-learning, career pathways, and student internships.f. Collaborate with faculty in related disciplines to best serve students in both the Recording Arts and Commercial Music disciplines. g. Experience using and teaching others to use standard industry software similar to Pro Tools, Digital Performer and Logic.h. Experience using and teaching others to use a Solid State Logic Mixing Board or equivalent recording hardware. i. Ability to run and maintain a state-of-the-art recording facility including common repairs to equipment. j. In addition to teaching competence in the primary discipline, the successful candidate will also have experience in blending student success strategies, such as goal setting, time-management, problem solving, study methods, and research skills. Candidates who have not had such experience will be expected to gain these competencies during their first year, so that they are able to incorporate these strategies in their own courses. 2. *Evidence of ability and effectiveness as a faculty member:* a. Understanding of the role and purpose of the community college.b. Ability to evaluate one's andragogy and its effectiveness in facilitating student learning.c. Ability to use teaching methods that engage racially, ethnically, academically, and culturally diverse students; promote critical thinking and emphasize cooperation and collaboration.d. Sensitivity to, and respect for a rich and diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. e. Commitment to collegiality and collaboration by working as a team with faculty and staff enhancing instruction, curriculum, and student success; as well as in the planning of class schedules and teaching rotations.f. Knowledge and practice of culturally responsive pedagogy and andragogy that supports student-centered, self-reflective, and student-capable approaches which includes a wide range of institutional delivery systems.g. Ability to effectively teach online courses as needed.h. Commitment to professional responsibilities and associations outside of the classroom through contributions to the department, division, and college activities.

*Education and Experience:*

*Minimum Qualifications: (Faculty and Academic Administrator Positions Only)*

Bachelor's Degree and two years of professional experience *OR* an Associate's degree and six years of professional experience *OR* a valid California Community College Credential in American Sign Language *OR* the equivalent. (Note: Professional Experience is required when the applicant possess a Master's Degree. The Professional Experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment(s). The above stated number of years is for Full-Time experience or the equivalent in Part-Time Experience. Unpaid experience may be counted if it entailed responsibilities substantially similar to those of relevant paid positions in the field).

*Desirable Qualifications:*

* Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of a sensitivity to, and respect for a rich and diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities.
* Experience working in a community with a similar diversity pattern as is found in the service area for Southwestern College is desirable.
* Ten (10) years' experience as audio engineer in a highly professional setting or Master's degree in the field preferred.

*Salary*

Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule based upon years of experience and education. Initial salary placement for experience can range from $55,070.00-$82,863.00 per year. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule.
