The Department of Environmental Studies was founded in 1970. We grant B.S., B.A., and M.S. degrees and serve over 325 undergraduate majors and minors, and 40 graduate students. There are 10 full-time faculty members, complemented by approximately 12 lecturers per semester who teach specialty classes.

*Description of Duties*

* The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation - through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
* Faculty shall organize all their classes within the *Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)*.
* All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

*Lecturer Opportunities for the Spring '22 Semester:*
Teaching opportunities are available for the following courses in the Environmental Studies and Global Studies programs. The semester begins on January 24, 2022 and concludes May 27, 2022.

* EnvS 01-Introduction to Environmental Issues. What effects are human activities having on the natural environment and our quality of life? Discover the technical and social causes of environmental degradation; learn how your personal and career choices can protect the environment for current and future generations. - Online, synchronous Mode
* EnvS 10-Life on a Changing Planet. An introduction to basic knowledge and theory in the life sciences, focusing on the theme of environmental change. Examines challenging issues in biology and methods for evaluating conflicting data and claims. Develops students' analytical and writing skills. - Online, synchronous Mode
* EnvS 117-Human Ecology. Diversity and similarity of human adaptation, cultural evolution, cultural change and environmental modification in African, Asiatic, Oceanic and Latin American cultural groups. Emphasis: traditional non-Western conservation practices and their lessons for the modern-day resource manager. - In person Mode
* EnvS 124-Environmental Law. Development, interpretation, application and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and legal policies by legislatures, courts, administrative agencies and citizens. Examination of air and water quality, hazardous materials, workplace, land use and wetlands regulation, international, ethical and efficacy issues. In person Mode
* EnvS 127-Community-Based Participatory Research. This course integrates interdisciplinary theory and practice in developing a situated understanding of community-based participatory research (CBPR) toward redressing environmental inequities. Students will apply these theories and practices in their own environmental research and advocacy projects regarding local environmental issues. In person Mode
* GlSt 1b-Introduction to Global Studies (Science-focused). Presents scientific ways for understanding global phenomena and for developing policy to achieve positive outcomes of globalization. Interdisciplinary approaches require new analytical models. Visiting professors will collaborate with instructor. In person Mode

*Required Qualifications:** *
The Environmental Studies Department seeks candidates for part-time lecturer instructional positions to teach lower and upper division courses.

* Applicants must have at least an M.S./M.A. (Ph.D. preferred) in Environmental Science/Studies or a related field. University-level teaching experience is preferred.
* Professional experience, in addition to the master's degree, will also be considered. Applicants must be well-organized, energetic, and able to provide a supportive learning experience to a diversity of students.
* Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the "Order of Work," or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
