[The Department of Communication](https://comm.uccs.edu/) in the [College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences (LAS)](https://las.uccs.edu/) at the [University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS)](http://www.uccs.edu/experience/about-uccs) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level to begin August 2022. The Sports Communication track focuses on key principles of strategic communication and writing, as well as technical and theoretical components of broadcasting with an emphasis in contemporary athletics. The position will teach 5 classes per academic year. Potential courses include Introduction to Sport Communication and Strategic Communication and Campaigns, as well as the opportunity for the faculty member to develop and teach classes in their areas of expertise. Faculty in the department are encouraged to teach in a variety of formats, including on-campus, online, and/or hybrid and in various timeframes such as 16-week, 8-week, and condensed/weekend formats. The M.A. in Communication is a fully online program, and classes are taught in 8-weeks or less.In addition to being devoted to teaching excellence at the graduate and undergraduate levels, the successful candidate should also be committed to high-quality scholarly work in the communication discipline, interested in pursuing community involvement, and willing to lead and further develop the Sports Communication Track and its curriculum. An ideal candidate would also be interested in leadership roles within the Communication Department and committed to furthering our collegial environment. * Evidence of teaching effectiveness and commitment to student learning
* Relevant teaching experience at the university level
* Ability to publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals
* Achievement in scholarship such as journal articles, presentations at academic conferences, and/or books/book chapters
* Commitment to pursuing service and engagement with the department, college, university, community, and profession.
Located in Olympic City USA, Sports Communication faculty at UCCS have access to more than 50 National Sports Organizations, the Olympic and Paralympic Committee Headquarters, and 20+ National Olympic Governing Bodies with which to pursue research and outreach activities. Qualifications
*Minimum Requirements:*
* MFA or Ph.D. in Communication Studies, or closely-related field. ABD applicants are welcome, but must have completed all doctoral course requirements and qualifying exams and must persuasively demonstrate that all degree requirements will be completed before the start of the Fall 2022 semester.

*Physical Requirements:*While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
