*Position Highlights:*The Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at the University of Arizona (UA) is one of the top-ranking family medicine programs in the country. The Department places strong emphasis on translational research and is seeking a Vice Chair for Research with leadership and strategic vision to take the department's current research programs/activities to a new level of excellence.
The Vice Chair for Research will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse internal and external constituents and stakeholders towards the sustainability of DFCM research; collaborate with the other members of DFCM executive leadership team to ensure integration and strategic positioning of DFCM research programs in support of the Department's overall, clinical, education, research and outreach missions. The expectation is to maintain an extramurally funded personal program of research.

*Duties & Responsibilities:*TheVice Chair for Research will collaborate with senior leadership within, andexternal to, DFCM in order to drive, support and model an inquisitive andentrepreneurial-oriented culture focused on innovative, high quality,productive translational research.
This roll will help develop research training and mentoringprograms, and participate in mentoring a growing group of junior faculty and/orresidents. This position will hold an appropriate faculty appointmentcommensurate with candidate's experience. Activities as Vice Chair for Researchwould initially comprise a minimum of 30% effort and activities associated withstart-up of personal research program and other faculty responsibilitiescomprising the remaining effort.
* Participate in DFCM Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Team.
* Lead the development and implementation of the strategic vision and plan for DFCM research mission, collaborating with other vice chairs to ensure integration of research mission across other DFCM mission areas.
* Develop and maintain collaborations across the UA, Banner health and other stakeholders, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally to facilitate DFCM's research mission.
* Participate in DFCM philanthropic development activities related to research.
* Provide research leadership to FCM clinical, research and outreach faculty for team-based science, quality improvement, and other scholarly activity.
* Recruitment of new research faculty.
* Develop and submit funding proposals to appropriate funding agencies to support research training and infrastructure, and research projects.
* Implement research and research training projects.
* Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
*Teaching and Mentoring:*
* Occasional teaching of junior faculty, residents, fellows and students.
* Mentor junior faculty, residents, and fellows in the conduct of research activity.
* PhD, MD or comparable doctoral degree with at least 5 years of experience in successful leadership of research programs.
* Demonstrated ability to build collaborative research relationships with a diverse group of academic, health system, and community partners.
* A track record of obtaining NIH (or comparable) peer-reviewed funding.
* Current extramural grant funding.
* High productivity with regards to grants and peer-reviewed publications.
* History of successful mentorship of junior faculty.
* Must meet University of Arizona criteria for appointment to a tenure track senior level faculty position.
*Preferred Qualifications:*-Experience with developing and/or leading research training programs.-Significant experience obtaining and administering extramural funding from a range of sponsors.-Experience with a range of translational research (T1-T4) and types of study designs and research methods.-Established expertise in working with health systems and diverse communities.-Experience with philanthropic development for research.
