Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Earth Science, to begin in Fall 2022. We are searching for a geoscientist whose research interests are in the earth, ocean, atmospheric, or polar sciences. We seek candidates with enthusiasm for interdisciplinary education and demonstrable potential for outstanding scholarly contributions in research. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the geosciences and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. A Ph.D. is required (we will consider A.B.D. candidates also). Although the position will initially be housed in the [Department of Geology and Geography](https://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/geology), it will soon be in a new Department of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability (EES). The EES curriculum will offer students a foundation for understanding Earth's natural systems and their interactions with political, economic, social, cultural, and historical factors from global to local scales. The new EES Department will result from a planned merger of the Department of Environmental Studies with the Department of Geology and Geography. The successful candidate will participate in building this new interdisciplinary major and curriculum, and they will mentor undergraduate students in their research program. Please submit a letter of application, a C.V., and statements covering (1) research interests, (2) teaching philosophy, (3) the mentoring of a diverse student body. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Review of applications will begin on Friday October 1, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Mount Holyoke is an undergraduate liberal arts college with 2,200 students and 220 faculty.
