The Center for World Languages and Cultures (CWLC) promotes engaged learning, teaching, and practice of worlds languages and cultures; integrates languages and cultures into all disciplines and fields of study; and builds and supports interculturally competent communities through the exploration. Housed in the CWLC, the first-year language program offers study in ten languages and aids the students to experience the world through the lens of an acquired language, and understand cultures and their own from a position different to their primary language and cultural identification.

*General Summary*

The University of Denver will hire a full-time, appointed Chinese teaching assistant professor, to teach the first-year Chinese language sequence, as well as the possibility of teaching intermediate or upper-level language courses for the Chinese program in the Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures. The non-tenure track appointment with full benefits will take effect September 1, 2022 and is renewable with the possibility of promotion. Course load is eight (8) courses per year in a quarter calendar. Other responsibilities include: CWLC service, assisting with developing extra-curricular cultural programming, revising undergraduate placement test, coordinating undergraduate placement and proficiency exams, working closely with colleagues in the CWLC, with colleagues in the Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures, and across University programs and departments. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their teaching and service.

*Required Qualifications*

* MA in Chinese linguistics or closely related field (e.g., East Asian languages or Second Language Acquisition with clear Chinese emphasis) by the time of application.

* Native or near-native level command of standard Chinese language (Putonghua) in all its aspects (phonology, lexicon, and idiom, grammar, and particularly standard intonation and pronunciation, etc.) and of English.

* 1-3 years of experience teaching Chinese language (Putonghua) at the college or university level with proven excellence and effectiveness.

* Interest in incorporating inclusive excellence teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively change broadly diverse student populations.

*Work Schedule*
Classes are usually held four days a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

*Salary Grade Number:*
The salary grade for the position is UC.

*Salary Range:*
The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $54,000.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
