The Department of Radiation Oncology of the Emory University School of Medicine is recruiting for a physician and/or physician scientist at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. Candidates for the position should have completed an accredited residency and be Board Certified or in the process of becoming Board Certified through the American Board of Radiology. The candidate should ideally have a strong focus on clinical or translational research including clinical trials, residency education, and multi-disciplinary care of cancer patients. This position is tenure eligible.The Department of Radiation Oncology has a tripartite mission of providing outstanding patient and family-centered medical care, educating the next generation of cancer caregivers and researchers, and executing paradigm-defining cancer research. The department is growing in all three areas, is ranked third in NIH funding among U.S. radiation oncology departments in academic medical centers, and currently has 65 faculty distributed among Divisions of Clinical Affairs, Cancer Biology and Medical Physics. Faculty members are nationally recognized for subspecialty care in areas including pediatric oncology, brain tumors, head and neck cancer, lymphoma, breast, genitourinary, and lung cancer. The department operates five clinical sites in the Atlanta area, including the 5-room Emory Proton Therapy center.Winship Cancer Institute is the only National Cancer InstituteDesignated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Georgia and one of only 51 in the country. The Winship Cancer Institute coordinates subspecialties of cancer diagnostic imaging, care, and research throughout the university. Winship investigators conducted over 300 therapeuticclinical trialsand enrolled more than 900 patients in 2020. Winship has the largest unit in Georgia forphase I clinical trials, which are important to introducing new therapies against cancer. Winship works with the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (GeorgiaCore) to partner with community-based physicians to expand availability of cancer clinical trials throughout Georgia. Winship also serves patients through theWinship Cancer Network, a partnership with community hospitals enhancing access to research and treatment.Winship is one of 30 inaugural U.S. cancer centers selected as a Lead Academic Participating Site for the NCI's National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). The NCTN serves as the NCI's primary infrastructure to conduct phase II and II clinical trials.Winship has over 500 faculty and received $96 million in research funding reported in 2019, with $36 million from the NCI. Faculty include investigators in the schools of medicine, public health, and nursing, Emory College, Georgia Tech and partner institutions.
