*Description:*
This is a lecturer position supporting the teaching mission of the department of Chemistry in the College of Science. The position will support teaching and development of General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Laboratory courses and act as the Assistant Laboratory Coordinator of General & Organic Chemistry for the department and backup to the Laboratory Coordinator.

Teaching responsibilities include:

* Provide teaching for CH-4000 (Laboratory Assistant Training in Educational Chemistry Labs) and continue to develop the course to improve the teaching, supervisory and safety skills of upper-level undergraduate chemistry and related majors to provide students with a "peer-mentor" opportunity to assist the laboratory's regular graduate instructors (GTAs) in teaching General or Organic Chemistry Labs.
* Provide teaching for sections of Undergraduate General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry as needed, with the possibility of teaching upper-division undergraduate courses within the candidate's field of specialty. General or Organic courses will involve working within a common curriculum assessed by team-written exams and other assignments. Candidates who demonstrate the background and ability to design and conduct an undergraduate elective course focused on their area of specialties will be given preference.
* Develop and implement (in collaboration the Laboratory Coordinators and other faculty) new laboratory experiments with an emphasis on green chemistry, state-of-the-art chemical research, current chemical literature, and most importantly a strong emphasis towards achieving student full engagement.

* Assistant Laboratory Coordinator responsibilities include training of Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) to ensure that safe and accurate instruction and knowledge is transferred to undergraduate students in the laboratory and acting as backup to the Laboratory Coordinator, as needed.

Other responsibilities include overseeing compliance with state and federal chemical safety regulations for both the Organic and General Chemistry Teaching Laboratories and acting as an intermediary between the General/ Organic Laboratory Coordinators, Office of Research Safety, Building Manager, and Stockroom Staff (both General and Organic) to ensure sustained compliance and maintain a safety-minded laboratory environment.

*Qualifications:*
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. Degree in a specialty area of Chemistry or a related science (this requirement can be satisfied with an MS degree by equivalent work experience, on a case-by-case basis). Applicants must be safety-minded, possess rigorous laboratory experience, be up-to-date on current chemical and chemical education peer reviewed literature, and have a deep appreciation for chemical education.

The Cover Letter should highlight both an applicants' laboratory chemistry and management experiences. Applicants' should emphasize strengths and experiences related to chemical education, research, student mentoring, and team management & leadership. Applicants should accentuate how their previous experiences will beneficially translate to Clemson's General & Organic Chemistry Laboratory Teaching Program. Lastly, the cover letter should include a statement related to the applicant's philosophy related to inclusion practices in the classroom and laboratory (discussion of inclusion practices may be included in teaching philosophy statement and not in the cover letter if desired).
