Description:
The Chahroudi laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow to lead an NIH-funded project investigating HIV persistence and latency reversal. The goal of this work is to evaluate HIV cure strategies in a preclinical nonhuman primate model. The post-doctoral fellow will lead an in vivo nonhuman primate study, with support from laboratory technicians, and will direct the immunologic and virologic analyses, with ample room to make intellectual contributions to the project. The Chahroudi laboratory is located in the Health Science Research Building on the Emory campus and consists of a dynamic team of post-doctoral fellows, associate scientists, graduate students, and research specialists, who all work collaboratively with veterinarians, research resources, and other core facility staff at the Yerkes Primate Center.JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.Preferred Qualifications: Interested candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or an M.D. and have less than three years of postdoctoral experience. Applications should have a strong background in immunology or virology. Excellent oral and written communication skills are desired as is the ability to work as part of a team. Experience working with nonhuman primates and flow cytometry is preferred, but not required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will follow the NIH guidelines.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
