Job Summary

UK HealthCare is seeking an individual with knowledge of molecular genetics and oncology-based clinical testing, including next generation sequencing, to manage the Clinical Molecular and Genomic Pathology laboratory and the Molecular Genomics Shared Resource Facility. This individual will plan, oversee, and help develop new clinical assays and research services. They will oversee specimen processing, testing, data analysis and curation, data storage, report generation, EHR integration, regulatory compliance, and quality management. This individual will work with an engaged, friendly, and collaborative team composed of technologists, data scientists, informaticians, genetic counselors, and laboratory medical directors.

The CAP-Accredited Laboratory at the University of Kentucky showcases the use of state-of-the-art instrumentation and technology. In addition, this diverse department provides services to all aspects of the University of Kentucky's Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including KY Children's Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect patient, employee, and visitor safety, UK HealthCare is requiring all employees to comply with the COVID-19 vaccination policy prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of September 15, 2021, UK HealthCare requires all employees, including new hires prior to their first day of employment, to submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19 (i.e., two weeks past completing their complete COVID-19 vaccination series), or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal vaccine exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, chemistry and related laboratory sciences, genetic testing for heritable disorders and cancer, knowledge of high-throughput sequencing and data analysis. Oncogenomics experience required.
