*Assistant Professor - Medieval and Renaissance Italian Literature - Department of Italian Studies*
The Department of Italian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Medieval and Renaissance Italian Literature.
The department is dedicated to the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We seek candidates for this position who demonstrate strong evidence of a commitment to advancing these central values of our department and campus. Candidates should have a track record of (or show strong potential for) mentorship and course design that are attuned to the interests and needs of our first-generation students and/or students of color.
The successful appointee will teach in English and in Italian at the undergraduate and graduate levels, will mentor and supervise the research of our diverse student body, will maintain an active program of research and publication, will contribute to the Graduate Program in Romance Languages and Literatures, the Program in Medieval Studies, the Designated Emphasis in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies, and will perform service and participate in shared governance for the Department and the University.
In addition to expertise in the canonical literature(s) of Medieval/Early Modern/Renaissance Italy, we welcome applications from scholars whose work expands and/or problematizes the bounds of canonicity, and/or who are able to teach canonical literature(s) from a range of critical perspectives. Ideal research profiles will also place Italian literature in relation to broader cultural and linguistic contexts (western and/or non-western). Additional fields of interest might include: critical philology; cultural studies; digital humanities; feminist, gender, and women's studies; food studies; linguistics; medieval sciences; musicology; opera and performance studies; political theory; queer studies; theater studies; translation studies; transmedia studies.
