Review of applications will begin on December 6, 2021. *Full Time/Part Time*Full Time (1.0 FTE) *Job Description*The Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) within the College of Engineering and Computing at Missouri University of Science & Technology is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track teaching position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level who will help to maintain the highest possible pedagogical standards for the undergraduate Metallurgical Engineering degree program.
The MSE Department at Missouri S&T has one of the largest undergraduate enrollments in North America. MSE offers two ABET accredited B.S. programs in Ceramic Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. Our department has excellent physical facilities to support the undergraduate teaching mission. Students have access to multiple stations for metallurgical sample sectioning, sample mounting and polishing and optical microscopy; one of the largest academic foundries in North America; multiple heat-treating furnaces; modern mechanical behavior testing equipment; and advanced analytical characterization techniques.
The department has a strong research program with excellent characterization, state-of-the-art fabrication equipment, modelling software, etc. MSE has several major research centers which are leading the nation in advanced research and development. The successful candidate is joining a renowned group of collegial faculty as part of an award winning team. This person will enable the continued growth of the departmental programs and help to educate the best undergraduate engineers.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates should, at a minimum, have an advanced engineering degree with extensive experience in metallurgy. Other desirable qualities will be excellent teaching skills, organizational abilities, communication skills, and an ability to relate to students. Teaching duties will be determined based on the particular areas of expertise of the successful candidate and the needs of the department.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred areas of expertise include microstructure development, mechanical behavior, chemical behavior, iron and steel, and/or foundry. The successful candidate is expected to coordinate and participate in outreach programs that are an integral part of the department and the university's recruitment activities. Additional responsibilities will include ensuring laboratories function appropriately.
The appointment is anticipated to begin in Fall 2022. Funding for this position is based on a guaranteed income stream from a departmental endowment.
