POSITION TITLE:

Dean of Applied Sciences

APPOINTMENT:

Appointed by the Chancellor of the College upon recommendation of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness.



ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

The Dean of Applied Sciences reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Dean of Applied Sciences is responsible for the development, on-going assessment, and operation of the Applied Sciences Division of the College, which includes programs at multiple campuses. The Dean is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, management, and evaluation of Applied Sciences faculty, and for the development and ongoing assessment of the programs at all RPCC campuses within the Applied Sciences Division. The Dean is tasked with hiring and sustaining a diverse group of technical faculty and promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, respect, inclusiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and continuous improvement. The Dean is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and program accreditation standards. The Dean should be a critical thinker who seeks innovative solutions to problem solving and possess outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. This position is a 12-month position.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach at least one course during the fall and spring semesters
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of Applied Sciences faculty
  • Serve as time sheet approver for Applied Sciences faculty
  • Conduct classroom observations and monitor online courses, and provide support to faculty needing improvement
  • Complete annual evaluations, and develop and monitor performance improvement plans when needed
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty within the Applied Sciences Division
  • Manage curriculum guides for the Applied Sciences Division and bring changes, when needed to the College Curriculum Committee
  • Assist with the annual publication of the College Catalog, ensuring that all information pertaining to the Applied Sciences Division is accurate
  • Coordinate regularly scheduled (at least once per semester) meetings of the Applied Sciences Division


  • Conduct annual assessments of program learning outcomes (PLOs) for all Applied Sciences programs in accordance with SACSCOC and RPCC requirements
  • Assemble and coordinate Advisory Committees and Advisory Committee meetings for all Applied Science programs
  • Develop the Applied Sciences course schedule for each academic term and collaborate with the Vice Chancellor to ensure the course schedule is efficient and meets student needs
  • Manage the annual budget for the Applied Sciences Division
  • Approve purchases for the Applied Sciences Division
  • Respond to and find resolutions for student grievances that are related to courses or faculty within the Applied Sciences Division
  • Responsible for grade appeals related to Applied Sciences classes
  • Provide support to and hold faculty advisors accountable for student outreach and advising
  • Generally responsible for Applied Sciences student retention and completion
  • Seek out and apply for grants that support the development and enhancement of Applied Sciences programs
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with employers in the College's service area
  • Collaborates with Student Services personnel to set student recruitment goals and conduct recruitment events
  • Ensure compliance with SACSCOC, Title IV, Board of Regents, LCTCS, and RPCC policies
  • Ensure compliance with all Applied Sciences program accreditors

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

· Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution (Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management) and five years' experience teaching at the collegiate level OR an associate degree in a related field from an accredited institution and seven years or more of experience teaching at the collegiate level

· Experience with curriculum development and program assessment

· Strong management skills

· Innovative, creative, and energetic work style

· Demonstrated ability to build, coordinate and lead a team of diverse professionals

· The ability to represent RPCC internally and externally

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and to communicate with a diverse community

· Commitment to diversity and inclusion

· Experience creating and facilitating staff development and training

· Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion

· Excellent written and oral communication skills; competency with office technology and software.



Preferred:
  • Graduate of Professional degree from an accredited institution (Master's, Doctorate or JD)
  • Academic administration experience
  • Fundraising experience
