*Computer Scientist III - Joint Institute Computational Science*The University of Tennessee (UT)/ Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Joint Institute for Computational Sciences (JICS) is seeking an individual with a proven track record as a Computational Scientist for the Scientific Computing Group (SCG). JICS operates computing resources and provides support to the University of Tennessee, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and national science and engineering communities enhancing their capability to address computationally challenging research problems. A critical component of this support including domain science expertise and leadership in computational science methodologies is provided by experts within the SCG. This position reports to the JICS Scientific Computing Group Leader.*MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES*The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between the UT/ORNL Joint Institute for Computational Sciences and the users of its computational resources and its research and project collaborators. Activities include the development, porting, or tuning of scientific applications to meet research and/or project goals. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to research activities including proposal development and publication of results.Responsibilities of these position include, but are not limited to:
Assist users and collaborators in using computational resources effectively and efficiently.Develop, port, and optimize scientific applications for high performance computing systems and applications at-scale.Provide professional contributions to research programs and JICS activities requiring specialized domain expertise.Disseminate research results, training materials, and operational experiences via journal articles, conference papers, and presentations.Participate in ongoing research and project activities and contribute to the development of new projects.
*Required Qualifications: *The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a computer/data science or computational science/engineering discipline and at least 10 years of experience working with high performance computing applications. Research experience relevant to computational science as evidenced by publications.Experience with one or more areas of computational science such as machine learning, numerical methods, data analytics, parallel algorithms, software development, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, Python, Fortran, or C/C++ is also required. Experience in multidisciplinary research activities and projects is highly desired and experience in either computational biology, data analytics, or machine/deep learning is a plus. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and strong personal motivation are necessary, as well as the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
