The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Tulane University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on USEPA funded research project: Viral Pathogen and Surrogate Approaches for Assessing Treatment Performance in Water Reuse. The applicant will work closely with Dr. Tiong Aw to develop a better understanding of indigenous viruses in different wastewater systems to design improved viral surrogate approaches to inform water reuse. The applicant will use metagenomics and bioinformatics approaches to characterize virus communities in wastewater. The applicant will also have an opportunity to be involved in other environmental microbiome projects.
Initial appointment will be made for a period of one year, with a possibility of extension for two additional years based on performance. Interested candidates should submit a CV, three reference letters and a two-page statement of research and career goals.
*Required Education and Experience*
* PhD in Environmental Microbiology, Virology, Water Quality, Environmental Engineering, Microbial Ecology, or a related field
* Demonstrated laboratory expertise in environmental virology (cell culture, molecular methods, especially qPCR and metagenomics)
* Strong statistical analysis and bioinformatics skills
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
