The Laboratory of Human Retrovirology and Immunoinformatics (LHRI), Applied / Developmental Directorate, conducts Basic research, Translational Research, and Bioinformatics research. The goals of LHRI studies are to develop novel therapies for HIV(+) patients infected with multiple-class drug-resistant (MDR) HIV variants. This work is associated with NIAID clinical trials for HIV.LHRI has discovered the novel mutations associated with MDR or virus fitness in clinical samples and identified Interleukin-27 and Ku70 protein as a novel anti-HIV/HCV cytokine and a novel cytosolic DNA sensor inducing the innate immune responses, respectively.Recently, LHRI found potential novel targets in HIV to develop a novel therapy (J. Virology, 2021 doi: 10.1128/JVI.01323-21).
