Job Description
Carolina Medical Lab is seeking a full-time day shift lead technologist for our microbiology department. This position will perform the day-to-day tasks of the micro bench, as well as supervise other technicians in micro. *Experience or a desire to learn about molecular PCR testing is a PLUS*

Tuesday thru Saturday 10:00am to 6:30pm
  • REQUIRED: 2-3 years of clinical microbiology experience
  • REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a Health Science related
  • REQUIRED: Current national MT/MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent)

The lead microbiology tech is responsible for:
  • Bacterial Identification using biochemicals and commercial analyzers (Vitek 2)
  • Wound cultures
  • Throat cultures
  • Urine cultures
  • Susceptibility testing (Vitek 2)
  • Kit testing
  • Culture Plating
  • Clostridium difficile testing (kit)
  • Microbiology send-out testing advisement
  • SOP creation and maintenance
  • Quality Control and Media Sterility
  • Quality Assurance
  • Vitek maintenance
  • Research
  • Current practices
  • Current antibiotic breakpoints
  • CLSI Susceptibility guidelines
  • Training, both new and continuing
  • Supply monitoring and ordering
  • Antibiogram monitoring
  • Clinical Correlation
  • Contamination determination
  • LIS usage (Orchard Harvest)
  • General Microbiology advisement
  • Proficiency Testing
  • Validation
  • Verification
  • Document retention
  • Maintenance Review
  • Culture Report Reviewing
  • Specimen Collection knowledge
  • Gram Staining
  • Troubleshooting
  • Inspection preparation
  • Aerobic/Anaerobic systems
