Working with the University of Southampton in partnership with Blatchford Products Limited you will conduct multidisciplinary research and development in the field of lower limb prosthetics. You will lead the development of prototype stump/socket sensing interface instrumentation which is potentially an indicator of the quality of socket fit and provide information for advanced prosthetic control. Amputee tests will also be conducted to obtain an understanding of the correlation between sensor outputs and prosthetic conditions/user activities.

With over 125 years of innovation and expertise, Blatchford produces the world's most advanced microprocessor artificial limbs. Blatchford were winners of the prestigious RAEng MacRobert award for engineering innovation in 2016 for the first integrated limb prosthesis. This will be a great opportunity for you to progress your career benefiting from working with the world leading expertise from Blatchford as well as biomedical and tissue health research expertise from the University of Southampton.

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in the fields of electrical, electromechanical, biomedical engineering or related discipline and a minimum of an Engineering degree of at least 2.1 or above (or equivalent). Previous research and/or technological experience in medical devices, human gait analysis, prosthetics/orthotics and bioengineering along with an interest in collaboration with industries is desirable.

The post is for a fixed term for 11 months and expected to commence end of 2021 or early 2022.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
