A position is available in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Southampton for a Senior Research Fellow in Qualitative Methods. The position is based at Aldermoor Health Centre in the Primary Care Research Centre, School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education but will be carried out remotely. The project aims to develop and validate population clusters that consider health and social care determinants and subsequent need for people with multiple long-term conditions within large national databases. The research will use data-driven artificial intelligence methods that will be compared to expert-driven approaches. This is alongside substantial qualitative work packages to establish key biological, psycho-social, economical and environmental variables that are necessary considerations in the delivery of integrated and tailored health care.

The applicant will support the Chief Investigator in the timely delivery of the grant. They will oversee junior research fellows and students, obtain study approvals, co-ordinate study meetings and contribute to primary data collection (interviews) and qualitative analysis. This programme of work is funded by the NIHR.

You will be educated to degree level and must have a PhD in a health-related field or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in qualitative research. You will be able to work to deadlines and manage your time independently. You will possess excellent organisational skills. Previous experience of qualitative research and in particular interviewing participants is essential, along with experience on research related to integrated health and social care in multimorbidity. This post is offered full-time until 30/09/2023.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Dr Hajira Dambha-Miller at H.Dambha-Miller@soton.ac.uk

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
