Two positions are available in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton for Research Fellows in Epidemiology and Data Science. These positions are based at Aldermoor Health Centre in the Primary Care Research Centre and remote working will also be considered. The post is offered at ERE Level 4 or ERE Level 5 depending on qualifications and experience.

The project aims to develop and validate population clusters that consider health and social care determinants and subsequent need for people with multiple long-term conditions (MLTC-M), within several large primary care national databases, and social care datasets. Our research uses data-driven artificial intelligence methods that will be compared to traditional statistical approaches in establishing key biological, psycho-social, economic and environmental variables in the delivery of integrated and tailored health care. This programme of work is funded by the NIHR.

The post-holders will conduct cohort analysis of big data. They will be educated to degree level and must have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject (Epidemiology, Medical or Social Statistics, Bioinformatics, Data science or equivalent). You will have advanced epidemiology and statistical skills, experience of carrying out cohort analysis using STATA, M-Plus or R. Previous experience of primary care databases (such as CPRD, SAIL or Q-Research) is essential.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given

Both posts are offered on a full-time, fixed term contract for a period of 24 months. Part-time or job share working will be considered.
