The School of Cancer Sciences provides a stimulating work environment for more than 100 scientists, clinicians and associated staff, investigating cancer and its treatment.
We are looking to appoint a Technician to support the Observational Study and Tissue Bank activities associated with research programmes in B-cell malignancies funded by major UK cancer charities, including CRUK.
You will be an enthusiastic team player, contributing to the work of a group of scientists investigating the mechanisms of disease progression in B-cell leukaemias and lymphomas. You will join an expanding team of clinicians and scientists with a strong grounding in cancer B-cell immunology, genomics, molecular/cellular biology and bioinformatics. You will have relevant laboratory experience, display a high level of motivation and have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team as well as independently.
You will be required to process primary leukaemia/lymphoma cells from a range of patient samples and grow cell lines in vitro , as well as performing immunophenotyping, calcium flux and IGHV mutational analysis and other genetic analyses to a high standard. You will be required to comply with meticulous record-keeping and database management together, working together with dedicated data-mangers and lab-based scientists, for all processes undertaken as well as fully comply with legal requirements, GCP and GLP. Knowledge of lymphoma cell line manipulation techniques (e.g. lentivirus transduction or CRISPR) may be desired.
Training will be provided where necessary.
You will require a good understanding of the current health and safety regulations.
The post is based at the University of Southampton, University Hospital Southampton (UHS) campus. Working hours are flexible except for 1 day a week when sample processing is required from 4pm-9pm most weeks.
