Skagit Valley College is accepting applications for associate faculty to teach in our Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management (BASAM) program. The BASAM program has two tracks: general management and health care management. Potential classes include Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Law. The program prepares students who hold an associate degree with contextualized instruction for managerial careers. The BASAM program operates on a cohort model and follows a spiral instructional design. The spiral design means that curriculum is integrated within each quarter and between quarters.

Part-time faculty positions are typically filled on a quarterly basis. Part-time faculty are responsible for preparing and providing instruction to students in the classroom and online. BASAM courses are eligible for high demand, high wage program stipends

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide instruction in Applied Management courses that meet defined learning outcomes, following BASAM program design principles;
Create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
Deliver culturally appropriate curriculum that reflects diversity of student experience;
Express appropriate awareness of the history of underrepresented groups and promote an equitable work and learning environment;
Develop and provide class syllabi to students and academic office;
Assess, monitor and document student performance;
Work collaboratively with other program faculty teaching courses that quarter;
Recommend modifications and improvements to course and program design;
Fulfill part-time faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and Skagit Valley College policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and/or understanding of:
Familiarity with active learning strategies inclusive of all cultures and backgrounds.
Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas (or demonstrated ability to learn) and with MS Office.

Skills in:
Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
Strong leaderships skills that include the ability to make sound decisions and delegate appropriately.

Ability to:
Engage in team teaching, applied learning and in a flipped classroom.
Foster a constructive learning environment.
Contribute to the College's diversity initiative and foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
Act according to the principles of integrity, respect, open and honest communication, collaboration, and compassion.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Desired Qualifications:
Professional experience, ideally in a healthcare environment;
College level teaching experience;
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds;
Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and educational achievement of diverse students;
Demonstrated commitment to collaborative teaching and learning.
Per Proclamation 21-14, employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than October 18, 2021. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 Vaccination as part of the hire process. Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure:

Salary and Benefits:
The salary rate for part-time faculty is in accordance with the negotiated agreement and may be subject to change based on legislative mandates. In order to be eligible for benefits, state regulations must be met.

Rate of Pay: Faculty compensation units (FCU) are computed by total hours (lecture, lab, clinical) identified on the approved course outline for a given course, divided by eleven. Part-time faculty pay is computed by multiplying the faculty compensation unit rate by the number of faculty compensation units. The current FCU rate at Step A is $743.00
Example of Associate Faculty pay (this is for illustrative purposes only):

Course: BISC 220 | 33 lecture, 44 lab
33 + 44 = 77
77/11= 7 FCUs
A Step A faculty member would be paid 7 x FCU rate $743 = $5,201

Conditions of Employment:
Prior to employment, the candidate must pass a criminal background check;

Completion of academic degree(s) will be verified through receipt of official transcripts at the time of hire.
