*Nature of Work*: Clinical physics support, clinical development, and teaching *Professional Field:* Radiation Oncology Physics Examples of Work Performed; External Beam Therapy, Brachytherapy, Radiation Safety, Education *Examples of Work Performed:**External Beam Therapy:*
* Perform calibration and quality assurance program for all external beam treatment machines
* Interface with equipment maintenance engineers/technicians including review of corrective action prior to treatment unit's return to clinical service
* Develop and update clinical physics procedures as needed (e.g., dose calculation/monitor unit calculation, patient dose monitoring procedures, etc).
* Consultation with radiation oncologist regarding special clinical physics considerations for an individual patient (e.g., surface dose, need for special immobilization device or bolus).
* Perform special dose calculations as required for patient treatments.
* Perform patient specific dose measurements required for determination of monitor units or verification of treatment (IMRT QA, in-vivo dosimetry, etc.).
* Review and approve data taken by physics technicians or dosimetrists. Interprets and provides written reports as necessary for in-vivo dosimetry.
* Perform initial review of each patient's chart to verify the initial dosimetry calculations.
* Review and verify all patient treatment plans (i.e. isodose distributions)
* Verify that patient has received prescribed dose by performing electronic and paper chart QA checks of calculations and treatment plans on assigned patients under treatment every week; documents QA check in medical record (electronic and paper).
* Perform dosimetry measurements as needed for supporting data for new treatment techniques (e.g., Total Body Irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, pediatric radiotherapy, etc).
* Provide medical physics support for special procedures, e.g., radiosurgery, total body irradiation.
* Possess working knowledge of patient anatomy
* Perform QA program for machines that provide patient data (e.g. CT, simulators, etc.) and that
* Perform QA on RT and R&V systems
* Consult with physicians, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists regarding treatment setups and clinical problems as needed/requested; resolves problems and documents special physics consultation in medical record, and captures charge, if indicated.
Initiate charge capture and provides documentation for the patient's medical record in accordance with departmental procedures.*Brachytherapy:*
* Update brachytherapy dose calculation methods according to CDPHE and national protocols.
* Verify computer brachytherapy dose planning protocols.
* Provide clinical physics consultation for patient treatments.
* Oversee determination of patient parameters including target and source localization required from treatment.
* Perform special brachytherapy dose calculations as required for patient treatments.
* Perform patient or phantom dose measurements using TLDs, chambers, film and/or other dosimeters.
* Check initial and final patient brachytherapy dose calculations and treatment plans.
* Assist radiation oncologist in the supervision of HDR treatment planning and delivery.
* Develop Operational Policy and maintain a brachytherapy QA program according to AAPM reports, State and national protocols.
*Radiation Safety:*
* Work with the radiation safety officer (RSO) to ensure compliance with CDPHE rules and regulations governing personnel and general public safety
* Perform and maintain proper operation and calibration of source calibrator and survey meters.
* Perform radiation shielding designs and implement verification studies.
*Education:*
* Provide lectures to staff and trainees on radiation oncology physics
* Provide direct hands-on training to all trainees
*Salary and Benefits:*The salary range for this position has been established at: Instructor: $120,000 - $155,000Senior Instructor: $140,000 - $180,000Assistant Professor: $130,000 - $175,000Associate Professor: $175,000 - $250,000The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
