Work Hours/Shift:

Full Time Evenings (11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.), Every other weekend

You Will Be Responsible For:

1. Performs nursing care for assigned patients within the limitations of licensure and nursing department policy and licensure
  • Observe patient/family needs in relation to presenting problem, care needs, physical condition and learning need.
  • Observation on all patients and follow up as per policy
  • Identifies problems and / or nursing diagnosis and plans for nursing interventions.
  • Anticipates patient care problems and initiates corrective actions.
  • Recognizes abnormal diagnostic laboratory data, blood gas values, radiologic data and reports results to RN or physician
  • Recognizes the patient's and family's perception of hospitalization and health status.
  • Identifies the patient's learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet them including the family in the process.

2. Implements nursing actions to achieve patient care goals.
  • Consistently uses tools available in the electronic medical record to ensure patient safety and optimize patient care. For example:
    • Barcode Scanning
    • Patient Care management dashboard
  • Real time documentation.
  • Reviews and updates task list during the shift, including physician orders.
  • Performs bedside report using the EMR at each handoff report.
  • Establishes priorities of patient care based on the needs of the patient.
  • Implements a comprehensive patient care plan that includes baseline admission data, plans for treatment and goals for discharge.
  • Implements specific interventions, treatments, and medications as defined in the plan of care and documents outcomes.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate actions.
  • Complies with the National Patient Safety Standards regarding patient identification prior to all medications and treatments.
  • Accurately administers all medications in a safe manner displaying competence in the use of an automated dispensing machine where applicable. Educates patients and families regarding new medications including effects and side effects.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and families.

3. Participate in the evaluation of quality of patient care and outcomes based on care and treatments

  • Participates in multidisciplinary patient care conferences.
  • Confirms patient's understanding of care and treatments received.

4. Assists the patient care team with formulating the plan of care and updates according to policy.

5. Participates as a member of the Patient Care Delivery Model Team that includes: Virtual Care

RN, bedside RN, and C.N.A.

  • Copes with emergencies, staffing shortages, shift rotations and floating assignments.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the rising costs of health care and implements budgetary containment measures.
  • Maintains equipment in its proper working condition, identifies malfunctioning equipment and takes appropriate action.

Emergency Department

  • Promptly seeks guidance from the Nurse Manager / Charge Nurse when dealing with complex patients to ensure care provided is appropriate.
  • Works effectively under stress/expresses frustrations in appropriate manner and place
  • Functions as a member of the Code Blue Team as assigned
  • Accurately interprets and documents cardiac rhythm strips and notifies the Registered Nurse of physician of changes as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates competencies for the patient population
  • Demonstrates competency in implementing and maintaining suicide precautions


Intensive Care

  • Promptly seeks guidance from the Nurse Manager / Charge Nurse when dealing with complex patients to ensure care provided is appropriate.
  • Functions as a member of the Code Blue Team as assigned.
  • Accurately interprets and documents cardiac rhythm strips and notifies Registered Nurse or physician of changes as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates competencies for the patient population


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - All:
  • Minimum of Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
    • One-year experience as an LPN
    • Previous healthcare experience
    • Previous experience in designated department

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
  • Current Florida LPN license
  • BLS - condition of employment

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
  • IV Certification within 90 days of employment

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides fundamental physical and psychological nursing care to patients as part of the multidisciplinary team in accordance with the hospital's mission, physician, and patient/s expectations.
