Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Director of Adult Basic Education and the Director of Tri-State HEP, this position is responsible for the day to day classroom instruction, implementation of adult education curriculum, and assisting with outreach planning, and student data collection for reporting purposes.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • To understand and commit to the Mission of the College ~ Dodge City Community College provides a student-centered learning environment where students can achieve their educational, personal, and career goals.
  • Teach group GED classes as requested or needed by students or the ALC Director
  • Provide individualized instruction in Spanish (bilingual) for Adult Basic Education and GED students; provide instruction online as needed;
  • Assist students by completing appropriate forms, administering assessments, and explaining procedures for attaining a GED
  • Maintain accurate student file folders and data for federal/state reporting purposes; assist with student tracking and follow-up
  • Assist with State and Federal reports, which will include quarterly, online meetings;
  • Plan support service events such as campus visits, cultural events, and health screenings';
  • Work with main campus to transition GED completers to college classes
  • Recruit potential students, provide thorough information to them, assist in application process;
  • Attend conferences and meetings which will enhance instruction and professional development;
  • Obtain and maintain KAEA credentials; attend appropriate staff development activities and meetings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Basic Education or Director of TSH HEP/ISSC.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Must have the ability to teach in the Spanish language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work with, relate to, and teach diverse populations in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to keep confidential records, gather data, compile information and prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to appropriately exercise independent initiative and judgment.
  • Excellent computer skills and recordkeeping abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and public relations skills.
  • Ability to use classroom technology for online instruction.
  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of working with unprepared students.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and valid Kansas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.

  • None

Physical Requirements: With or without assistance
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes 10 to 15 pounds
  • Ability to hear patrons in conversational voice at a distance of 10 feet and on the telephone
  • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to patrons standing at 10 to 15 foot distance

Working Conditions
  • Teaching duties may be performed in various settings.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical classroom environment.
  • Some travel with overnight trips and evening hours are required.
