The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), a national leader in visual arts education, invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Art History positions. The field of specialization is open, although the ideal candidate will demonstrate how their teaching and research will intersect and expand our current curricula. We are particularly interested in those whose specialty may include ancient, medieval, early modern, African and African Diaspora, Asian, Islamic, Latin American, the visual cultures of the Americas, or other areas that address global connections and teach across historical periods.

The ideal candidate, having an understanding of the materials, methods, and processes in artmaking, will join a robust art history program that mentors 30 dedicated art history majors and double-majors, as well as all students campus-wide. This is a tenure-track position that begins in August 2022. Salary is competitive with peer institutions and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be an active participant in the education of studio artists and designers. These positions require a 3/3 load, teaching first-year survey courses in the history of art from a global perspective as well as upper-level specialized courses and advanced undergraduate seminars in the area(s) of expertise. Additional responsibilities include continued scholarly activity, departmental duties, supervising internships and directed studies, and service to the college.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in art history required at time of appointment. Evidence of excellence in teaching is required, along with evidence of or promise of scholarly publication.
