Full time starting salary is normally in the range £27,924 to £30,497. As this vacancy has limited funding the maximum salary that can be offered is Grade 6, salary £28,756.
Part Time, 11.25 hours per week, Fixed Term Contract until 31st May 2022

Background
This post is part of a team working on an ongoing project regarding how Covid-19 has affected the nature of stranger sexual offending in the UK under the leadership of Professor Jessica Woodhams. The research associate will assist with analysing data regarding sexual offences using statistical software packages and Python to create knowledge. They will assist with the writing of reports and academic papers, and will contribute to the organisation and hosting of workshops with practitioners. It is important for applicants to be aware that they will be working on sensitive data regarding the details of sexual offences. They will be required to sign a data sharing agreement and the Official Secrets Act.

Role Summary

- Conduct data analyses

Main Duties
- Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews
- Analyse research data as directed and as part of a team working on data analyses
- Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
- Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods
- Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research
- Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
- Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect, supporting equality and valuing diversity.
Person Specification
- Degree or equivalent in psychology or criminology.
- Experience of using statistical packages (e.g., SPSS) and using Python
- Experience of writing code in Python (desirable)
- Experience of working with sensitive data (desirable)
- Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
- Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
- Ability to access and organise resources successfully
