The Department of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science at the University of Montevallo is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biology, Botany, Plant Physiology, Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field. Duties and responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester (three 4 credit hour laboratory science courses), maintaining an active research program, and service to the department, college, and university. Teaching responsibilities include teaching Introductory Biology, upper-level elective courses such as Field Botany and Plant Systematics, and developing other upper-level, plant-focused organismal elective courses in the candidate's area of expertise (please describe these upper-level elective courses in the application cover letter). Opportunities for teaching and research include UM's Ebenezer Swamp Ecological Preserve. The Swamp is a 60-acre hardwood wetland located approximately 6 miles from campus and is home to numerous species of plants, animals, and fungi. The University of Montevallo is a public liberal arts university located in central Alabama approximately 35 miles south of Birmingham. The Department of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science is committed to the university's mission of providing a student-centered approach to liberal studies.
