The Department of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Montevallo invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in the area of exercise science beginning Fall 2022. The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate Exercise Science program, as well as in the Master's program in Exercise Science; participate in academic advising; direct graduate student theses; serve on committees; establish an independent line of research and publish in scholarly journals; seek and secure external funding to support scholarly activity; be active in professional societies; actively recruit undergraduate and graduate students to the department; and provide service to the department, college, university, and community. Teaching responsibilities are split between undergraduate and graduate education. The requirements are to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester. There will be opportunity to teach in summer semesters. Potential teaching opportunities may include, but are not restricted to: Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, Statistics, Biomechanics, Introduction to Exercise Science, and Exercise Testing.
The undergraduate exercise science program leads to entry level careers in exercise and sport science, as well as supports entry into various graduate programs following graduation. The program prioritizes experiential learning through active learning in the classroom and external field experiences and internships. The MS in Exercise Science includes a thesis or internship as the capstone experience based on the goals of the student. The Exercise and Nutrition Sciences (EXNS) degree program is one of few in the country that combines exercise and nutrition sciences into a single degree. EXNS is composed of four unique concentrations: (1) allied health; (2) health promotion; (3) nutrition and wellness; and (4) strength and conditioning. Nutrition and wellness are accredited through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The EXNS program is also recognized through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The Department of Health and Human Sciences is housed within the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Montevallo, Alabama's only public liberal arts institution. Located approximately 35 miles South of Birmingham, Alabama, the University of Montevallo serves approximately 2,600 students annually. Montevallo offers undergraduate and graduate programs across the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education and Human Development, and Fine Arts. The UM College of Education and Human Development currently supports approximately 425 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. Comprised of two departments with 28 fulltime faculty, the College offers bachelors, masters, and educational specialist degrees. Required Qualifications: The position requires a doctoral degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or closely related field. ABD will be considered providing the completion of the doctoral degree is by August 2022. Additional required qualifications include, emerging research agenda, strong communication skills, a substantive commitment and demonstrated contributions towards diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Desired Qualifications:
Documented experience and excellence in teaching; peer-reviewed publications in human subjects research; evidence of successful advising at the undergraduate level; membership and involvement in professional organizations; ACSM or NSCA certification - CSCS certification preferred.The Chronicle of Higher Education.
