Our location in Columbus, OH, currently has an opportunity for a Scientist Product Development Innovation. In Research & Development (R&D) our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Conceives, plans, designs, and conducts independent research on ingredients, formulations and processes related to the development of nutritional products.
  • Follows direction provided by project goals and experimental design.
  • Applies advanced scientific knowledge to projects.
  • Weighs ingredients and prepares research batches in the pilot plant or lab.
  • Performs batch calculations, prepares weigh sheets and manufacturing instructions. Coordinates testing. Monitors, organizes, and interprets results.
  • Draws conclusions, makes adjustments, suggests direction for, and implements improvements to formulations.
  • Recognizes problems and initiates corrective actions.
  • Communicates technical results to project teams.
  • Authors summary reports on technical findings, when applicable.

Minimum Education/Professional Experience:

Required:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Math, Food Engineering or related scientific field. B.S. with 3-5 years relevant industry experience also considered.

Preferred:
  • Outstanding background in Science and Math. Emphasis in food chemistry, ingredients interactions, carbohydrate research and novel ingredients delivery systems or lipid oxidation and antioxidants, or comparably complex systems is desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate full relevance of scientific observations and to produce documents and reports. Strong organizational skills.
  • Basic and some advanced computer skills (includes word processing, spreadsheets, instrumentation related to Abbott network systems and advanced technical software)
  • Team oriented, with high energy and desire to achieve results. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and meet business goals.
  • Ability to generate and translate innovative concepts into technically feasible and consumer-relevant products.
