The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Junior Communications Manager to execute our communication strategy.

IOB is a research institute combining basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. It is a place where your expertise will be valued, your abilities challenged, and your knowledge expanded.

As Junior Communication Manager, you will partner with our Head of Communication to ensure the execution of IOB's internal and external communication strategy. You will interact with key stakeholders to translate the communication needs into tailored communication plans and implement them. You liaise with relevant media and agency contacts as necessary. You have gained several years of experience in a communication role with a solid liaison to scientific or healthcare communications. You are an expert in social media communication, you love writing and telling stories and you have gained experience in traditional media activities as well.

Your position
  • Support initiatives and provide specialist knowledge to consistently disseminate content to the public via social media, web, press releases, interviews, events as well as other activities.
  • Revise, conceptualize and implement changes to IOB's internet and intranet presence, ensuring audience-focused information and simple maintenance.
  • Implement and maintain a social media plan ensuring a steady news flow.
  • Build a relationship with and support internal key stakeholders in day-to-day operational communication matters.
  • Conduct analyses and interpret results of communication programs and make recommendations to establish an effective internal and external communication in line with IOB's goals.


Your profile
  • University degree in communication, journalism, public relations or another relevant field, a scientific background is a plus;
  • Experience in communication positions preferably related to science;
  • Digital and tech-savvy with organizational and project management skills;
  • Ability to develop clear, concise, consistent, and engaging messaging;
  • Experience in social media, storytelling & writing, media relations and/or visual communications;
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Agile, hands-on mentality, team-player.
