A PhD position is opening in the Department of Chemistry in the research group of Prof. Jonathan De Roo at the University of Basel, in collaboration with Dr. Anne Bonnin at the Paul Scherrer Institute (X-ray tomography group).
Your position
This PhD project aims to tackle cardiovascular diseases, specifically in the area of heart transplants. You will develop nanocrystal based contract agents that will allow a more reliable determination of transplant rejection, leading to more personalized treatment for the patient. The project involves nanocrystal synthesis and characterization, surface functionalization with target molecules, staining of biological tissue and acquisition of X-ray computed tomography data at the synchrotron. The start date is between 01.01.2022 and 01.08.2022.
Your profile
Candidates must have completed a Master in (bio)chemistry or nanosciences. Experience in biochemical coupling methods is a plus. The successful candidate must be highly motivated and have an interdisciplinary mindset (biology, physics, medicine). A very good working knowledge of both written and spoken English is required. You enjoy working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
