The University of Connecticut's Department of Physiology and Neurobiology is pleased to invite applications for a full-time Research Assistant 1 to participate in the neuroscience research led by Dr. Natale Sciolino ([www.sciolinolab.org](http://www.sciolinolab.org/)) and Dr. Alexander Jackson ([https://ajackson.lab.uconn.edu/](https://ajackson.lab.uconn.edu/)). Their independent research programs focus on the cellular and molecular basis of neural circuit function and disease using the mouse model.
The Research Assistant's primary research activities include mouse colony management and genotyping (PCR). Additional research activities include transcardial mouse perfusions and brain histology. Tasks include helping to monitor and order supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research and maintaining accurate and timely records in laboratory notebooks, databases, etc. The Research Assistant will be responsible for providing updates to Principal Investigators regarding research progress. They will also provide guidance and training to other laboratory members.
* The successful candidate will have a B.S. in Physiology and Neurobiology, Molecular Cell Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related subject.
* Have basic quantitative skills and basic knowledge of genetics and chemistry.
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task with some supervision and maintain detailed digital and written records.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
* Experience working with small laboratory animals including mice
* Molecular biology and biochemistry experience (e.g., PCR, western blotting, rt-PCR)
* Have a strong work ethic, be punctual, and willing to work outside the normal working hours occasionally when the experimental procedure so requires.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully on teams and work independently
This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of August 27, 2021. This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding.
